The visitors will learn about the entire Gallas and Clam-Gallas familiy, from Matthias Gallas (1588 – 1647) to the seven daughters of the last male member of the family, Franz Clam-Gallas (1854 – 1930). Their private lives and their political, economic and cultural activities will all be represented here. Since this year marks the anniversary of his death, the greatest attention will be paid to the famous imperial ambassador, Count Jan Václav Gallas. The exhibition will also show the family’s activities regarding the military, charity, music, the theatre and the fine arts, and it will emphasize the importance of the Gallas and Clam-Gallas families for Northern Bohemia in the fields of estate management, forestry and business, and point out their impacts on the region that are daily encountered here.
Large families´ portraits, everyday objects, furniture from family castles, and other pieces will be put on show. Guided tours, educational programmes and an educational corner for children are available.
The exhibition is prepared by the National Heritage Institute, the Regional Gallery in Liberec, the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Technical University in Liberec.
